Do you desire to leave a lasting impact with the families you serve?

High capacity families are quite complex. No one professional can do everything needed for true family health – yet that’s often the paradigm we operate from. The solution is to innovate.

Innovation is often the combination of two things nobody else has yet thought to combine. It starts with the simplest of things. Take the rolling suitcase: suitcases existed, as did wheels, but the combination of the two radically changed how we travel. At Family Meridian, we are innovating the legacy movement by combining right-brain techniques with financial, estate, and charitable planning. Successful businesses operate with intentionality; we believe successful families must do the same.

Join us for a gathering of experienced professionals who work with high-capacity families and adhere to a biblical worldview. In a discussion-based and interactive format, you will learn from a world-class lineup. Connect with other leaders in your space and walk away with practical strategies to further integrate legacy into your practice.

After years of managing people’s middle school kids as a youth pastor, Todd decided it couldn’t be any harder to instead manage their money as a financial planner – I mean, really, how different could it be? Perhaps as a contrast to working as an executive in a wealth management firm, Todd’s fun side found rather odd outlets through things such as a backyard chicken farm (he lives in the suburbs), a taste for wearing old school plaid pants (stop by the office and see), and of course his prize collection of crayon art (donated by four small artists who live in his home). Todd is married to his beautiful wife Janelle, and she thinks that Todd finally found the perfect union of his pastor’s heart and his business mind when he became president of Family Meridian.

Enjoy dinner and connection before we hear from Mart Green, Ministry Investment Officer of Hobby Lobby. Mart will share a vision of partnership through the story of Illuminations as well as offer insights into how the Green family engaged in these legacy conversations.

Connect with other attendees while enjoying delicious, outrageously awesome, tasty treats. Are they seriously that good? We’ll find out, but the catering company tells us they’re awesome.

Day 2 – Wednesday, May 8

Start your day off well with a hearty breakfast. (It probably won’t be as tasty as dessert last night, but remember what your mom said about breakfast being the most important meal of the day – blah, blah, blah). Come and go as you please.

Join a time of prayer, led by Catherine Muthey, Family Meridian’s Chief Prayer Warrior and star of the I Like Giving video, I Like Car. Many of us who pray with her weekly regard it as the highlight of our week. You won’t want to miss this powerful time together.

We will officially begin our day with morning devotions, led by John DeKruyter. John has an MA in Biblical History and Historical Geography, which he will use to give unique contextual perspective for how we read the Bible.

Partnerships are difficult. Throw in some big personalities and different compensation structures, and you have a potential disaster on your hands. Tom Conway will join Eric & Jennifer Garcia for a discussion on how to partner well.

Drink coffee, stretch your legs and enjoy a performance by Todd. Please vote for your favored entertainment style: 1) Sword swallowing 2) Todd’s dynamic routine from his college cheerleading days 3) The U of M fight song on the bagpipes (please vote early as he needs to start learning the bagpipes soon).

A Harvard Business School-style case study, led by David Bentall.

Bill High, author and CEO of Signatry, will lead our time in discussion about legacy. This will include practical, field-tested advice from Bill’s tenure with high capacity families.

David York. Casting a Vision for Wealth and Its Purpose Estate planning today is based on three fundamental assumptions. First, a person’s wealth can be summarized on a balance sheet. Second, if transferring some financial wealth is good, then transferring more is better. Third, the first place you should go to do your estate planning is an estate planner. What if all of these fundamental assumptions are actually all fundamentally wrong? The keynote will discuss what is wrong with current estate planning and how it can be fixed. It will discuss the importance of capturing and transferring human capital, how to maximize the benefits of financial wealth transfer, and what can be done with excess financial resources. It will also review the Seven Disciplines that successful families follow to effectively transfer holistic wealth on a multi-generational basis.

Family Meridian President, Todd DeKruyter will rock the house. This session will include moving towards action and implementation from our time together.
